I really like Squid Game so far (l’ve seen 3 episodes so far). I’ll have to find out where I can stream Parasite here. I only watch Squid game when both the kids are at school because I don’t want them wandering out of bed and accidentally seeing it at night. The scariest thing is my son tells me “All the kids in his class have seen Squid Game” (I don’t believe the all part) and they play Squid Game/Red Light, Green Light at playtime and he wishes he could really play Squid Game and win all the money. He knows a lot of details of the show, so some of his friends have actually seen it. They are 7!

@jalapenocheese I’ll have to check those podcasts out. The only one I’ve listened to is casefile. My favourites are Wine and Crime, and Bad People. They might not be your cup of tea though. I really like Paper Ghosts. That was made by a guy who has been privately investigating the cold case of several missing girls and a murder that happened in his small home town.

I found another good show on Amazon Prime called Nine Perfect Strangers. It has Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy. I’ve just watched one episode. It’s filmed in either Queensland or Northern New South Wales and I can’t believe that it is supposed to be California, it looks so Australian to me. It also has a mostly Australian cast doing American accents.

I’m going to have to give Ted Lasso a try. I just found out I’m subscribed to Apple TV. I don’t even remember doing that, who knows how long I’ve been paying for it. I got a free trial for it when I got a new iPad and I could never find anything I wanted to watch. Apple must have automatically rolled me onto the paid subscription once the free trial ended. I started watching Only Murders in the Building. I’ve got it on Disney+. I’m not sure where you get it in the US. It’s quite alright. I’m a fan of true crime podcasts like the characters and I have been a fan of Steve Martin and Martin Short since I was a little kid.

Has anyone else watched Katla on Netflix? I thought it was really good. It reminds me of Dark, creepy, spooky kind of show. It’s an Icelandic series, set in an isolated volcano town and strange things start happening. I won’t give anything away. Misha and the Wolves is a really interesting documentary. It follows the story of a woman who claimed she was a Jewish hidden child during WW2 and she ran away from her foster family to find her parents and lived with a pack of wolves as she travelled through the forests of Germany. Pray Away is another good documentary about people who had undergone gay conversion therapy with Christian organisations. It is very sad.

Losing the guilt was the biggest part of becoming an intuitive eater for me. I can’t stress that enough!

This totally matched my experience. I’ve recently had a few times where I’m eating more emotionally, but I just enjoy my chosen snack and move on. It doesn’t turn into the opening of the flood gates, unable to stop until everything is gone scenario. It usually turns into a small dinner or not feeling like a snack at bed time or having a great run the next day.

I just watched episode 1 of Mare of Easttown. Thanks for the recommendation, I’ve been looking for a good show again.

Haha, I knew about hip dips. I hated mine for most of my life and believed if I just lost more weight or built more muscle, I could get rid of them. 🤦🏻‍♀️ It’s bone structure! I have them no matter what. I’m over that now.

I agree with everything you wrote. I like observing how my appetite fluctuates. I find it generally follows my activity the day before. If I have a day where I am super active, go for a big run and do lots of gardening, I won’t be thinking of food very much while I’m busy. The next day, I’ll be super hungry and eat lots more food than usual. If I’ve had a quiet day sitting around, I won’t be very hungry the next day and I won’t be hunting out snacks all the time.

I don’t weigh myself anymore. I haven’t stepped on the scale in at least 6 months. For me it doesn’t add anything useful to me in my life knowing the number. Every time I told myself I could handle the number or I was just curious, it has always ended in a meltdown of self hate. I have put so much meaning into those numbers on the scale during my life. They are embedded into my brain and I don’t know if they will ever lose their power. So for now, I’m fine without the number. At least in Australia, weight is rarely checked during Drs appointments so it is not something that is forced onto me either.

This is pretty much how I make my food decisions too. Things I consider also are what I have in the fridge that needs to be eaten soon to avoid food waste and if I am preparing food for my family, what can I easily make that will make us all satisfied without having to make 4 separate meals. I’m finally getting back into exercise and I’m feeling so good about it right now. I’m excited to go for a walk or run as soon as I wake up. I don’t have to drag myself out there. I come home feeling great and I’m looking forward to the next time I can get out there.

I’m not wanting to say you’re dumb or you shouldn’t want those things. Probably my experience is different to yours and my definitions of being in shape or eating better is different to yours. My current definition of being in shape is being able to physically do things I enjoy without pain. It no longer includes an image of what an ‘in shape’ body looks like or a desire to lose weight or have a body with less fat. I can’t control the way my body looks without doing things that are detrimental to my physical and mental health, so I don’t do that anymore. I feel better when my body is not stiff, so I do some form of stretching pretty regularly. I feel better when I can run and walk outdoors regularly. I haven’t been able to run for a long time due to an injury, so I’m just gradually working on adding that back into my life so that I can go for a run 3 or 4 times a week again. With food, I love finding ways to add nutritious foods to my meals and make my food delicious too. I just can’t do anything that involves restriction or labelling foods as “bad”. Allowing everything actually stops me from binging, which is a healthier way of eating for me.

I’m still scared of the scale. I haven’t weighed in months. The last time I weighed, it still triggered the negative thoughts about myself. I’m ok when I don’t know my number, so I don’t have the urge to step on the scale.

I agree with all of this. What I thought were my hunger signals- empty, hollow, growling stomach, light headedness, shaking are actually my way too late hunger signals. If I eat then, it’s always urgent and panicking. My body can’t digest food fast enough to relieve those symptoms so I get the urgent desire for sugar on top of what I’ve eaten. Eating to the clock, convenience, or when I start having passing thoughts of food works best for me. I thought for years that eating to the clock was such a bad thing. Truth is, my digestive system is pretty predictable and it is ready for decent sized meals in the morning, midday and evening, with small snacks in between.

I liked An American Murder too. I’m into true crime, so that was right up my alley. Then in the opposite direction I’m loving The Great British Sewing Bee. I love the sewing (I wish I was as good as the contestants), everyone is so sweet and nice to each other, even the judges. It’s very heartwarming. The Undoing with Nicole Kidman looks interesting. I haven’t watched it yet though. My son has taken over my Amazon Prime streaming service. This means that all the show recommendations are for him. Sharknado came up as a top suggestion the other day! Only a little boy could believe that storyline makes sense. He loved it. He did start pelting his sister with toy sharks after watching it though.
