Pantry press -finally finished. first photo is no other light in the house, dark outside. Lights are controlled by motion detector - works great for us as we leave the right side open during the day while we are having coffee I like that it's near sink, I can pull out hte food processor and push it back very easily. Kettle also need to be out when in use and left to cool down before using back and that extra corner space is very useful
We still have tradesman most days - 3 days out of 4 working days this week. But I think this is last week for some time
Kind of stuck with supply deliveries recently. It took a month to get 3rd pendant, it will take probably another 2 months to get the 2 stools and another month at lest for double door to dinning room. We can't get the electrician back to finish off the work and I will consider myself lucky if we get the fridge freezers by Christmas
I have few fun things coming in the post - teppanyaki plate and grill plate for the hob and the downdraft hob (stove top, or cooker top in US) functions fantastic!
Wow! It looks fantastic! It has been really fun to follow along from the planning stages. I’m sure you can’t wait to get everything put back and settled in.
It's soooo dirty but I can't get myself to clean up just for progress photo, and the fitter will continue work tomorrow. It's great to see it after months of planning. There is probably at least week of work, plus waiting for quartz nest week and after that lights, fridges, double doors but it's starting to look like kitchen
End of week 3 update. I love the tiles, I think they actually look even better in real life Fridge freezer another 6 weeks wait, 16 weeks in total. Happy I have not promised our old fridge, we can keep it in the dinning room and use it in the mean time. Trying not to be disappointed, unfortunately German factories were hit badly by covid and long lockdowns and increased demand means slower deliveries. It's not urgent, we are lucky we have good fridge.
So exciting! Do you have a mood board or inspo pics you can share?
ETA: disregard that because I didn’t read through your previous posts. 😅
I like one of the photos you shared, which you didn’t like as it felt too clinical. I personally like white kitchens because of upkeep. Dark looks great but a pain to clean. I think I follow too many cleaners on IG. 😂 JK.
First happy vibes moment since the work started. The tiles are being laid down and I absolutely love them! I am bit ... cautious when I say I love something as obviously we all have different preference but to me they are just perfect. I will post photo later, don't want to make the tilers worry about being photographed and they are still working
Wow! Moving right along. I remember from our kitchen remodel what a relief it is to hit the point where they stop tearing things up and start putting things back. 😄
Today is the first day I am completely stressed. The windows/patio doors were due in yesterday and didn't turn up. Without them, plastering the small part near the window can't happen.. Without that, tiling can't happen and everything else will be pushed further. People are very busy and being able to align everyone again would have been a challenge! Apart form that I keep hearing people getting errors with windows/doors deliveries. The lead time is 12 weeks, and most people just accept what they get to avoid the wait. They are being fitted right now, hopefully I will be happy in another hour . I am going to try to post photo later today
I wake up being happy/eager to see the progress the day brings. We are well over half way, with kitchen being fitted Monday
Day 0, end of day 1 and end of week 1 photo. You can't see how much it is done between day 1 and 5, but thins as moving gas boiler, moving washing machine, electricals, plumbing, work on changing windows - things are moving nicely. 1 out of 3 weeks gone.
But in this shade. The island is not that big, I want when you walk in the room to see the garden, and just notice the lights vs having lights that take your attention. And I like that the glass is not clear, you can't fully see the light. Little retro vibe, but the kitchen is so clean cut it will add bit of a character.
One of the thing I am most looking forward is having two integrated fridge freezers side by side, with hinges on the doors so they open as American style fridge freezer
It's very popular to have full length fridge and full length freezer but I find we always need more fridge space, and we always need to open the fridge for something - even if it's just iced water. I didn't want my produce to be at bottom near the ground either. Current plan is to take 5 weeks for everything, 3 weeks building work, fitting kitchen and after that 10 days wait for the quarts counter top. It's long time!
The kitchen layout and finishes you choose look awesome! I agree that white will match better than stainless steel. I have stainless steel appliances and hate them haha. They are a pain to clean and immediately get dirty again - at least they do in my home with three young kids.
When I was a child my parents renovated their kitchen. It took over a month from start to finish and we lived in and ate at our home during that time. It was an adventure to say the least. My parents were very creative with their fridge-less and stove- less meals.
The builder found issue that could impact the design timelines and budget Monday
The kitchen is already ordered, so I had to see what are options on Tuesday
We are due to start work on Monday and finish in two weeks with the only item pending to be the quartz.
The kitchen company does not have another fitting day for weeks. So instead of 2 weeks without kitchen we could be without kitchen for 2 months.
We plan to live in the house while the work is going. Have family nearby but due to school year, high infection rate and he only has his first vaccination we are better managing without taking their offer to base ourselves there, at least until we see how the first few weeks go and get him the second vaccination
Feeding family without having kitchen, while working from home, while work is ongoing will be something!
Another possible option. I want the oven on the other side as I want all my baking goods nearby and I want it near counter space so I can place things on the counter without having to do many steps
that black corner unit is very neat, it rolls fully up and down so you can hide your toaster, coffee machine and have some shelves above. It's pretty open shelves too. But unusual wood pattern splashback, right?

I love food. I love cooking for others and myself and I love trying new recipes. I am having fun with the design process. I am not going to be making more changes to this company but in process of getting few more done up from other companies
I love the floors and the light cabinets. I think I’d want a little more contrast, but I see now that the countertops are darker than the cabinets, so maybe it’s already there. That’s going to be so nice!
I like the layout. An island sink would be great. Lots of counter space for kitchen gadgets. Remember to install a ridiculous number of electrical outlets. When we redid our kitchen years ago, we had no idea how much stuff our future selves would want to plug in.
The space we have will fit kitchen like this and the layout will suit, but the dinning room would be separate. It's plain, but I also think it's boring
Of those two options, I like the sink in the island too for all the reasons @skwigg mentions. It's going to look amazing. Please take pictures of your kitchen before and after the reno! I love house design stuff. This has been a fun discussion! Thanks for allowing it @skwigg
No, I love this! It's putting the Fun forum to good use. I think I'd rather have the sink in the island because it's handy for prep work, like chopping vegetables and having a garbage disposal right there. I agree about the hidden fan too. I'd rather have a real fan on a wall.
Layout only so it's either hob/stove in the island. Down side the hide in extractor fans aren't that strong. Or it's sink in the middle.
Engineer will come next week Skwigg, sorry for taking the forum in the kitchen design direction. Please let me know if you feel this doesn't belong here. I thought many here as you and I love cooking, and the main goal for the kitchen is convenience when cooking
north west. Living in Ireland, we don't get that many sunny days anyway and this specific room is the darkest in the house. It will get direct sunlight only for short time summer evenings
What direction does that wall with the large glass panels face?We currently have a big glass sliding door where your plans have the large windows. We hate it lol. But that wall is south facing for us so it gets the sun all day every day that the sun is out. It gets really warm and things in our pantry melt from the heat of the sun.
gas broiler is a oven separate from the stove? The wall where both designs have the big glass doors, does that go to your back yard? Is there a reason they aren't putting the window and sink there? What's in the room beside the kitchen?
There wouldn't be two sinks, I don't think the kitchen designer have listened to what I said. That window they have at the sink is actually facing my neighbors wall, there is limited amount of light coming in and no view at all, as there is tiny space between the two houses.
On top of this there is gas boiler that we can't figure out where to move and needs to be hidden in one of the upper cabinets, meaning there is no space for both sink and hob/stove and one has to be moved to the island
With that set up your kitchen sink is already so close to the stove that I personally don't think I'd put a sink in the island too. A sink in the island would take away from the useable counter space on the island. If I understand "hob" correctly, it's like a little elevated ledge on the back of the island correct??
This looks like a really good use of space. I like the long stretch of cabinets on the sink side with everything that's "closed" on the right. I don't love the colors on this one though. What about this in the dark grey? with the island black and the counters the marble colour from the first one?
My brother and his wife have a sink on their island and they absolutely love it. It's on the island right across from the stove so they used it all the time for filling and emptying pots.
it's hard picking anything as we are still in lockdown and all design sessions are online. I would love to be able to go in show rooms.
I am in two minds about open plan. We had it in our old place for 14 years and it was great when our son was small but on the down side
food smell lingers in the living area
noise in the kitchen - dishwasher, food processor, coffee machine, even fridge sometimes make humming noise and if one of us is watching tv, the other one want's smoothie both are not comfortable doing it
but I don't want to spend thousands of euro and find that even after the changes the room is still dark.
Wow! That’s beautiful.
That is so cool! I love that you can hide away all the big kitchen gadgets while they’re still easily accessible on the countertop.
And my super duper hob(stove/cooktop in US)! huge relief that the extractor functions so well!

Spice drawer looking good!
That’s going to be beautiful! I love the extra light in the room with the big windows and that little wall removed.

I saved all designs we had from different companies & the revisions as I think it could be interesting to go back to them in time

The doors we choose between kitchen and dinning room. They will open fully to the dinning room, giving open/close layout as we feel like it.
I will post few photos this weekend, builders are making great progress!
Wow! It's on! Fun seeing photos of the demo.
I love that fridge!

No, not yet but soon! The appliances and tiles are arriving and my office room seems like storage/building site. Not fun but can't wait to get it!
I have not logged on for awhile, hope everyone is doing well
I was cleaning the kitchen after dinner tonight and wondered how the renovation was going. Have you started yet?
It's a concern and also considerable expense to bet one with downdraft extract
Another possible option. I want the oven on the other side as I want all my baking goods nearby and I want it near counter space so I can place things on the counter without having to do many steps

I love the look of dark kitchen but not sure if I am brave enough and it's north west facing room
I am trying to decide for plain modern cabinet doors like this
or this
or more traditional shaker style like this
I don't window cabinets I don't want glossy
The layout will have to be L shape plus island
I don't want such overpowering look for the extractor fan
